BRIEF OVERVIEW
Each year an overall President is nominated for our Urbanisation. It is not a paid position and the person is a volunteer. Presidential elections are held every August and all home owners can vote. The President is responsible for liaising with each of the individual Block Presidents and generally sorting out any complaints or issues on a day-to-day basis. Their time is not their own and normally the position goes to a full time resident, often retired or semi retired, so that they can be on hand throughout the year. It can be a stressful job sometimes and usually most people are only too glad when their year of being 'El Presidente' ends!
In addition to the President (El Presidente), each individual Block elects their own Block President every August.
Prior to the elections the Community Accounts are released so that you can see exactly how/what/where your community charge money has been spent over the past year. The paperwork will also list anyone who is in arrears with their community charge payments for the whole community to see.
The community charge is adjusted each year and often this relates to planned works being carried out which might be more or less than the previous year (for example one year there was a plan to have the swimming pool extended - but most residents voted against it so the cost of this work wasn't then reflected by an increase in the community charge. This year there is a possible plan to install security cameras (see a further post about how your community charge is calculated).
The block presidents usually email everyone to let them know the date of elections and the agenda for each block meeting - hence why if you are a new owner you should get in touch with your own Block President to ensure that they have all of your contact details!
